Tomorrow, I travel to Dallas, Texas to teach a seminar on practical self-defense and bullying. While there will be good practical target-oriented defense moves taught, the most important discussion will center on mindset.
Things happen in life. How we respond is a choice. Saiko Shihan Oyama used to say “You can be happy. You can be sad. It’s your choice.” It sounds like an oversimplification, but in fact it is the truth. It is about mindset.
Being a victim is also an issue of mindset. I may be victimized by someone’s action or language. However, staying and remaining a victim is a mindset. If I choose to accept circumstance as it is not as I wish it was or wanted it to be, I can then address the obstacles of the circumstance and begin to effect change.
Decide who you want to be. Prepare. Be pro-active. It is your life. Set your mind on making it the best life possible.
