Tanglewood – the Box?

That’s right! A novel about unpacking a box.

Honestly, Tanglewood was originally conceived in 1975 as I was dealing with issues of subjectivity and objectivity in modern philosophy. My concern at the time “Who decides?”

Who decides what is real? Who decides what is acceptable? Who decides?

Mr. K was born. He was the central figure of a story which began with him being placed in a private mental institution called Tanglewood. He was a fictional replica of my great uncle Joe Burnette who was living in a mental institution in Louisiana. He had been committed and lived there for years. When I met him, I understood he was speaking what seemed to the rational mind gibberish. But to me it was metaphorical speech and actually made sense. When I mentioned this to my father, who was the ward of the court for Uncle Joe, my father just shook his head and ignored my references.

Joe was different. However, if we adopted his world as normative, the rational were mad. So Tanglewood entered my bloodstream and a few years later went to pen and paper.

Interestingly, this question has become vogue in the form of “identity” and “divergent thinking”. Several times in the last 51 years, Mr. K and the Tanglewood saga have risen to the top in notes and digital entries until mid 2023 I pitched the novel to Wick House Publishers. And now, Tanglewood has taken the iteration of a narrator unpacking a box that survived a fire.

That’s right! A novel about unpacking a box.

So I want to invite my readers to watch and wait as Tanglewood becomes a finished novel. I have already introduced a few bits and pieces if you want to look back and read excerpts. Going forward, I will introduce more excerpts and offer the occasional interjection as the author.

Of course, feel free to engage me through questions and comments. goaskpops@gmail.com Thanks for the read.
